I've lived and help run half houses in my recovery (Thanks you Charles S. from Milton Pa.), have seen & heard just about every con there is (I'm sure there is much more I still need to see or learn on that topic). A/A or N/A will help us stay clean, but for the most part we will still be sick, that's where the spiritual part of the program/recovery comes in to play, we need to deal with that demon in our gut all that "stuff" we have yet to deal with honestly, we are to willingly ready to take the baseball bat out and beat oursleves up, we need to see the LOVE and TOTAL forgivenss in Jesus Christ, His unconditional love for us. No religion No church membership just you and him (Jesus Christ)in a personal relationship, get on our knnes and sincerly cry out to him get in touch with someone in the program who believes in J.C. and let him/her be your spiritual guide (men need to stay with men, women need to stay with women, we don't have the drug or drink and counseling with the opposite sex can be a big fall). Co-dependency is much of a 'disease' as addiction. You, too, need recovery.

Ann, before you go any further, you need to work the Steps yourself. ‘Trading’ individuals may not be a solution, in fact, your problems may continue into your new relationships. I am questioning my own sanity in leaving this relationship to be with someone who is a recovering crack addict and is 9 years clean, employed, going to meetings etc. Am I crazy??

I am with a recovering alcoholic and our marriage is seriously damaged.
