Each day addicts go into programs and each day some come out, you are right they don't always succeed. So they just try again and somehow keep that light shining and striving to attain it.
There are so many people you would never suspect had ever had trouble with drugs or alcohol all around you.
Recovery is certainly achievable and well worth the work it takes to make it happen.

Good advice here. However the "12 Step or religous" thing ain't entirely so. Residential centers that are state certified/licensed and funded (the medicade- medicare group) may recommend 12 Steps and support it in their curriculums (usually with the Project Match material (Recovery Training Self Help & 12 Step Facilitation) but the core of their treatment philosophy is client centered, individualized treatment using research based modalities (MET and CBT). The philosophical bent here is that change is internally motivated and more effective when based on the the client's own values, goals and strengths.
I am grateful for the work you do here. Keep on, keepin' on.

Hi there Tracie

Leaving a drug rehab center can be scary, and it should be. If it is not a little scary, then the person is probably headed for a quick relapse. You have to have a bit of fear in order to have the right mindset for success, in my opinion. This is when you first leave treatment of course.

The way to work through this fear of leaving rehab is to make a plan of massive action and then start following it each day. That might mean different things to different people. Just make sure you are getting heavily involved in whatever recovery solution you set up for yourself. Attack it with full force. Doing so will help to give you a small bit of confidence back (which is all you want....too much and you are headed for trouble!).

Good luck....
