You are talking about curing the disease of Alcoholism, which is something I have no experience with.  I tried to &quot;cure&quot; it several times in my drinking days and it always got worse, eventually.
For me, abstinence is the only way. Once you heal the problem on the inside, then the need to abuse substances disappears. After all it is only a symptom of the problem. Therapy is another solution, the factor which makes the difference is the desire to change.
