Eventually it stops being fun and then he might ask for help on how to quit.  I am afraid that you might be on a roller coaster until then.
When does that point occur?  Could be 2 weeks, could be 40 years.  Seriously.  It might be that long.  I know people who are over 70 and they are just now getting clean and sober from drugs and alcohol.
