Principles of Success with Private Addiction Treatment

If you need help with drug or alcohol addiction then you might consider going to private addiction treatment.  Doing so can set you up for success and get you back on track in your life.

Going to addiction treatment has a couple of major purposes.  One is to get you physically cleaned up and detoxed from drugs and alcohol.  This is a necessary starting point for recovery.  Many of us have vowed to make big changes while we were still using drugs and alcohol, and of course this never worked out for  us at all.  So one of the big keys is to get into an addiction treatment center and at least get to the baseline starting point of recovery.  Complete abstinence from all mind and mood altering chemicals is the baseline starting point for your new life.  Going to rehab accomplishes this for you.

Now after you are clean and sober and getting your bearings in treatment, you will want to start focusing on an action plan for what you can do to stay clean and sober.  Most rehabs try to teach you different relapse prevention strategies and other techniques to help you stay clean.  This is a good thing but it is not the most important thing.  The most important thing in treatment is for you to start planning your action for when you leave.  In fact, it would be good if everything you did in rehab was geared toward planning your first few weeks on the outside.  Nothing is more important really.  Learning about relapse prevention and 12 step theory is not going to help you much when you actually hit the pavement and find yourself out in the big bad world and free to consume drugs and alcohol again.  Relapse prevention sounds nice when you are in a classroom but that crap doesn’t work so great when someone is handing you a joint in the street.  What are you going to do then?  That is the question you need to be asking yourself over and over again.

Let’s get clear on this: everything you do in rehab should be preparation for your first day on the outside. Everything you do in rehab should be part of a plan of action.  You need massive action in order to recovery successfully.  What are you going to do to stay clean over the next 30 days?  What actions will you take every single day in order to insure your sobriety?  If you are not answering these questions in rehab then you are wasting your time.

Take massive action in order to recover.

The principles of success that actually work in a treatment setting are:

1) Long term recovery living solutions that allow you to practice real world recovery while still having massive support.

2) Motivating yourself to push for goal achievement and personal growth in your recovery.  Striving for a better life.

3) Emphasis on holistic health and improving your self esteem and self worth through better self care and personal growth.  Quit smoking, eat healthy, exercise, and live better.  Life becomes more valuable so therefore you do more to protect your recovery.
