24 Hour Treatment

This is a great website. what hit me was-sitting around thinking about change and not doing anything, taking “massive action”. I have been working in the field of addictions for 16 years (clean&sober that long). right now i am working with patients using medication to treat opiate dependency. I feel very conflicted about this treatment. For some it works wonderful because they have also implemented change. but others, i feel it enables them to continue to use. in a harm reduction world this is good but i don’t hear or see alot of encouragement for people to get off the medications. They are panicked when their script isn’t available, fear of becoming sick with withdrawal. i’d like to see the medication used for short-term treatment along with a creative recovery that addresses all that you speak of. what are your thoughts on medication assisted treatment?
@ Lois – I too work with opiate addicted individuals and some of them do try to use Suboxone as a maintenance type drug. The thing is, and this is completely subjective on my part….just an opinion based on limited observations….it does not seem to work so great because nearly everyone I see who tries the maintenance meds ends up coming back to rehab, over and over again.
I am sure that Suboxone works for some people but I do see it fail for quite a few. Like I said though that is completely subjective based on my very limited observations. In theory, I think Suboxone is a great idea, and it seems like it should work better. But in the real world I have not seen consistently good results with it….
I don’t know about all the rest of you but I can’t get on the forums! Had the same problem yesterday. Hope everyone is doing well.
I’m doing well!!! 60 days tomorrow – yeah me!!! I am assuming it is a database error – overload with all the activities going on lately – it takes time to fix – hang in there and JUST DON’T DRINK :]
