The single most helpful influence contributing to my success was knowing it was NOT too late to do more than a little good. I told my doctor, dentist, family, friends and co-workers I planned to quit. Literally all of them were very condescending, sarcastic and "Oh, ya, sure. Ya, right!" (rolling eyes) about it. That makes it so much worse! It was a surprise, and a real blow. Be positive. Quitting now, at ANY age, will do you a world of good and GREATLY decrease your risk of nasty consequences. It's NEVER too late! Surround yourself with people who are positive and encouraging. Read about the benefits daily. When you make it, tell others to use positive feed back towards any other smoker--especially all in the medical field. I think every medical facility should have at least one poster clearly noting the smoking cessation benefit timeline. Good luck, God bless you, and don't beat yourself up anymore. You CAN do this!!

After smoking a pack a day from age 17 to nearly 40 I quit cold turkey 5 years and 2 months ago.
