Though from medical position it is absolutely clear it is pure replacement of one tough addiction ( I mean heroin) for another one with a “better” social face but more addictive and therefore more destructive . Methadone which seemed to be a revolution in treatment of opioid addiction 30 years ago discredited itself completely nowadays. The basic idea of gradual decreasing the dose of Methadone to zero works only theoretically. In real life thousands of people are “parked ” in Methadone dependence for years without any hope to get out . And what is even worse within a time many of them often develop combined addictions such as Methadone +Heroin or Methadone +Benzo +Marihuana or all together. Methadone suits only government because it helps to take uncontrollable heroin addiction out of streets and make another one, more “controllable” under the roof of Methadone clinics . Methadone program is relatively cheap for government. Still it is a good feeder for numerous Methadone clinics which vigorously justify necessity of existence of Methadone by inventing more and more “clever” excuses just to cover quite understandable desire to keep their flourishing business on even at the cost of people’s health and lives. Every year we treat dozens of people with Methadone addiction. Why are they coming if Methadone is so good? May be because they are not happy with it ? We successfully use conventional heroin, Methdone detox and ultra rapid heroin, Methadone detox (UROD). We do approximately 250 URODs a year. Excellent results. we do detox as a detached program (short course) and also as a preliminary stage for a full course of opioid addiction treatment. The core treatment is curing of mental dependence + Naltrexone therapy. Reliable long term results. Not less than half of the patients do not relapse during the next year after treatment.
