30 minute walk was all I managed today.

Good morning everyone and welcome John! I haven't seen you in the other threads for a while, so glad to see you back. I just started posting here recently as I was sick of being out of shape and needed some motivation and support to keep me exercising. The people here keep me going by holding me accountable and I like the fact that's it's very positive over here.
I let my health slide while I was drinking and it hit me that one day it might be too late to do something about it; if I kept drinking and did some kind of permanent damage that was irreversible that would be such a waste of this one life I've been given. I have so much I want to do, see, and accomplish that I couldn't allow myself to continue on that self destructive path I was on. Although my efforts have not always been 100% successful or perfect, so what? I keep trying and that is all that matters.
Glad the meditation video was helpful to you, I find it easy to do and it works. I have a hard time sitting still to do a proper meditation, so this works great for me. You live in a beautiful part of this country and I'm glad you have a chance to take advantage of the weather there. Spring is so close here in Tennessee to breaking free, the daffodils are starting to bloom and I saw my first fly yesterday. I ready for it, even the bugs.
Hope everyone is having a great Friday.

Fiona, Sylvane & Beth .... THANK YOU guys for sticking with me! We all checked today again.... very proud. Beth, a 30 minute walk is terrific - great way to clear the mind, right? When I walk I think about Patrick's article on success in early recovery, and the requirement of honesty and awareness in maintaining the motivation to change. It helps me to avoid complacency. Fiona - I'm going to give the into. Pilates class a try tomorrow - wish me luck. I hope I last at least 20 minutes so that I can get tomorrows day checked! Sylvane - still waiting for a report on that KB workout. Where is Sue? And has anyone heard from Erin or Millie?
Ken - hmmm, I'm not actually seeing any claim to actual exercise in your post? Just giving you a hard time
I, too, want to make sure I stay as healthy as I can from here on out .... I worry that the years and years of drinking have taken a toll somehow. Anyway, a healthy diet and daily exercise keep me focused on staying the course and not becoming complacent with my battle against the bottle. Today was a tough day for me, no idea why.
John - great to see you back in the Forum. We're all in this together, on or off, so keep up the exercise and let us know. I find it really helps me stay in the off again mode.
Be good everyone - thanks for being here!

Julie, you are right, I have not been posting about exercising, thanks for correcting me. I have been exercising, just not posting about it. Yesterday, I took my dog out for a long walk. I live on a street that was once a 1 mile horse track, so it is really easy to keep up with how far I walk. 1 mile yesterday and some weight lifting, today is going to be a yard work day. I think our bodies have an amazing ability to repair themselves if we provide the proper ingredients; eating right, exercising, stress management, supplementing where necessary, and I'm sure you can add plenty other items to this list like not drinking. Sure, some things may not be possible to completely repair, but I think for the most part we can. It's never to late to get healthy if you try.
Good morning to everyone, hope you are having a good morning!

Welcome John, glad you joined us. "They" say that people who have a workout buddy will do better at succeeding. So stay with us please. We all need each other here.
Yesterday I was able to get Jillian in. And already let her kick my butt this morning. Day 4 check.
I feel my body getting toned. I just need to stay motivated because I have a long way to go.
Going bowling today with the girls..... The way I bowl that will be a workout too
-
Go us!!! Day 25: check. I really, really didn't want to do it, but went out for a 40 minute walk this cold, blustery evening. I knew I had to check in so off I went. Didn't make it to Pilates today, but it's still on my 'to try' list. I like Ken's idea of yardwork - if it's a decent day tomorrow I think I'll get my workout in the yard.
Beth - you've probably already posted, but what Jillian workouts do you do?
-
Happy Sunday everyone! I went to the gym early this morning, so got it out of the way ... Day 26 (!!!!!!) check. Looking forward to hearing how the bowling workout went.

My sister's birthday is next week and I'm going to build a closet organizer for her today, does that count? Just kidding, it is going to be a beautiful afternoon and I'm taking my dog to the park to run and get some much needed sun. I'm so pale!

Hi all... Sun is shining here too! Great idea about going to the dog park.
So bowling was really fun. My ball was a little heavy (12, should have used 10) so I am feeling it in my upper arms this morning. It was a great workout and the kids had fun. I need to do that more with them.
Glad to see that lots of walking is being accomplished. It really has a double work out, both mind and body. Go everyone!
Julie, I am doing the Jillian Micheals 30 Day Shred. I am not doing it every day... There's a lot of jumping in it. It is a hard workout but is only 20 minutes. I am going to try to do it every morning this week. You really feel it especially in you abs!

Friday I cleaned. Saturday I walked all over the place during an oysterfest. And I am pretty sure I burned as many calories opening those things as I did eating them. Today the dog got his walk in the park.

Hi to Dreamweaver... Oh how you give us inspiration to lose weight.... Thank you.
So tonight was a 40 minute walk with my dog. Was good but now my legs have the same aches as my bowling arm.
Pain is good right? Or it just shows how old and out of shape I'm in

Millie, Erin, John, Molly: are you ok? Please stay with us....just 20 minutes.... Please let us know if you need a kick in the butt that's what we are here for

I stayed up way too late watching TV last night and am paying the price this morning, but I'm going to push past the excuses and head out for a run with my dog. I need it, he loves it, not his fault I couldn't turn off the stupid thing!
I posted one of the best articles I've ever read on success and failure in the Getting Started thread in the Drinking Problems section that you all really should read. It totally nailed it for me and really simplified things!
I hope everyone gets a chance to work out however you see fit today and has a great morning!

Good afternoon everyone. John, of course you can stay! Ken, I read your post about a minute after you posted it. Perfect for what happened to me today. I had lots of time to think about my future......on my 5 mile walk back from the car repair shop
Why did I walk you ask? Well my short version is.... I planned to wait for my car to get serviced but the $1,900(luckily my work is paying for it) in work will take till tomorrow! They asked if I wanted a ride home and I said no because I need a car tomorrow so I will go next door and rent one. On my way over I realized that I don't have enough funds in my account to rent one
So for whatever reason (mostly pride and stupidity) I decided to walk home.
I can't believe what an adventure it was.... Dead animals and all the trash on the road including lots of beer and liquor cans and bottles. So between the utter disgust I was seeing and the crying I was doing I was able to clear my mind and reflect on what the future means to me. Something I have NEVER done before. Ken, your article and Patrick's Addiction Help Guide I read yesterday that talks about faking it till you make it showed me why I have never made plans for the future.... More on that later.

Oh I forgot to Thank you Ken! And I want to thank all of you here..... I am still crying but at least I can sign in and check off today of the challenge...Yeah!
-
Beth, hang in there. I did the exact same thing about a year ago! But when I got home it was like "Now what do I do?" Funny thing is I don't remember what I did to get through it, I just know I did. But the walk I remember...maybe so I think 2x next time:-)
Ken - great article.
Rode the bike for 20mins & then went to yoga...14days...check
My friend's mom was telling me about "forbidden rice" so I bought some and made it. Its a black rice, & turns purple when you cook it. Apparently, antioxidants and other nutrients give it color, and it has a lot of nutritional value. The story goes only Emperors were allowed to eat it because of its nutrition. Well, I'm queen of this castle, and thought I deserved it, and my 2 princes liked it too!

Ok Fiona now I'm smiling.... Why when I hear that it has happened to someone else I laugh.... Sorry that is so not right of me. Maybe just the way you said it. I love your upbeat style!
The other positive from this is I will not be drinking today...... No car till tomorrow. My willpower just got easier
