The American Psychiatric Association is proposing revisions to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders that would expand the list of recognized symptoms for drug and alcohol addiction, while also reducing the number of symptoms required for a diagnosis. In some ways this is good as it would allow earlier interventions for treatent. In other ways, it is bad as it opens up enormous room for abuse to define normal behaviors as problems and promote pharmaceutical solutions to those problems. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/12/us/dsm-revisions-may-sharply-increase-addiction-diagnoses.html?_r=1&hp
