These statistics have held true for the past 30 years and I haven't seen any change over the last 13 years I've been clean. It depends on the addicts mantainance of their recovery. If the addict continues to attend 12-step meetings regularly, has a sponsor, working the steps with their sponsor and having a good relationship with the GOD of our understanding, the addict will stay clean. No one has ever relapsed who lives the 12-step program.
Too many addicts become too comfortable with their recovery and start slacking off with what they did in the past and take recovery for granted. However they forgot that they have a disease, incurable, progressive and fatal. They forget that it will be their choice whether they die with the disease or from the disease. Treatment facilities are as good as the individuals that attent the programs. The programs are 100% affective because they all give an alternative to the way of life they were living with their disease. It is a simple spirtual program that too many try to complicate.

Long term facilities and 28-day or even 7-14 day treatment programs follow the same rule of thumb; 2-3% will stay clean one to five years after they leave the facility.
