How to Lose Weight and Overcome Food Addiction


I am not a huge person by any means but I have experimented quite a bit with weight loss in recovery nonetheless. If you are still actively using drugs and alcohol then you have some unique options available to you, but on the other hand you probably don’t care much about your weight either.

In recovery, we start to care again, and therefore some of us try to make changes in our diet, our exercise routine, and so on.

So let me tell you my experience.

How to lose weight fast

At the treatment center I work at, we had a contest a while ago called “the biggest loser” contest, and we did a weigh in and the goal was to lose weight and hit our target goal. We all threw in a couple of bucks. I think the contest went for about 2 or 3 months, and we did a weigh in each week just to see how we were doing, and so on.

Anyway, I won the contest and the money. Let me tell you how I did it. Juice fasting.

Now people will moan and groan when they hear that, and they will probably say that it is not an option for them. When I tell them that is my big secret, they always freak out and say “Oh, I could never do that! I would just die!”

Those statements are ridiculous and they are why people stay hefty. You have to get past that type of mental block if you want to learn how to lose weight. This is a major lifestyle change we are talking about here.

So let me break it down for you:

* Do a juice fast for 3 days to start out with. Don’t eat or drink anything else other than strained juice. Make sure the juice has no pulp whatsoever in it as that is food. Later on you can experiment with longer fasts but 3 days is a good length for your first couple of efforts.

* Get in the habit of walking for a full hour each day. Do this for each day of the juice fast. There will not be any problems with “lack of energy.” If anything, you will have extra energy to burn during the fast because your body is so well rested from not having to digest solid food. We normally spend about 40 percent of all our energy on food digestion. You get all of that 40 percent back when you fast. You will feel energized and alive.

* Expect to feel no hunger during your fast. If you do this right, you will feel no hunger at all. None. The key is to juice fresh lemons and other fruits and veggies and strain the pulp from them. If you include the pulp you will feel hunger. Strain the juices and make sure you get some lemons in every glass and you will feel no hunger at all. Drink as much juice as you want each day.

Follow through with these suggestion and you will be delighted with the weight loss you experience. As you get more comfortable with fasting, you can later experiment with longer fasts and doing them more frequently.

You will also be amazed at how fasting changes your attitude towards food and towards eating. You will learn to appreciate food again. The transformation is amazing. It is so much more than just a way to learn how to lose weight fast. In fact, the weight lose aspect of it is sort of besides the point. The other benefits are amazing!

Fasting is a way of life and anyone who struggles with food addiction should give it a try!
