Take Action and Embrace Recovery with Crack Addiction Treatment

Crack addiction treatment can be thought of in 2 parts: the first part is in getting the crack addict into a safe environment so that they can stop using the drug temporarily.  The second part of the treatment for crack addiction has to be a new design for living.  If you just get off the drug initially but go back to the same environment without changing anything, then a relapse is fairly likely to occur.

Now it is easy to believe that if we do a bunch of thinking about our addiction that this can help us to recover.  It is easy to believe that if we contemplate the reasons that we started using that we might gain some insight as to how to stop.  It is easy to believe that if we can just figure out the events that drove us into crack addiction, then we can determine the solution.  Turns out that none of those things are true.  Thinking about our situation and what led to our addiction is useless.  Examining the reasons we started using in the first place is useless.  These exercises do not help us to recover at all. Period.

The only thing that really works for treatment is action.

Big, massive action.  We need to take action to recover.  Not just any action either.  We need massive action.  If you just sort of make a small feeble attempt to do some things to help you recover, then you are doomed to relapse.  The only path to success in recovery is to go big.  Really big.  That means taking massive action on a daily basis.

Thinking about recovery is not action.  Thinking about what led to your addiction is not action.

Going to meetings every day is action.  Working in the steps and writing stuff down is action.  Interacting with other recovering addicts every day and helping each other to recover is action.  Pursuing holistic growth by pushing yourself to grow in new ways is action.  Doing all of this stuff, and more, every single day of your recovery, is massive action.  And that is what it takes to recover from crack addiction (or any other kind of drug addiction).

Massive action is the key.  Go big with your recovery efforts.  It is the only way to produce long term, meaningful recovery.  Ask those who have found success in sobriety if they can look back at their early recovery and claim to have taken “massive action” in order to stay clean.  Every single person you ask will say that they indeed took massive action.

Overcoming an addiction to crack is more than just giving up the chemical itself. No, this is a lifestyle disease that requires a complete shift in how you live your life.  If the problem was just dropping the chemical from our lives then recovery would be easy.  But the fact is that you have to reverse a whole bunch of stuff that is dominating your life, from relationships, to your job, to your home life, and so on.  Everything has to change.

So what do you think the secret to recovery is?  That’s right.  Massive action.

Do something!
