How can I as a friend to someone who has a victim mentality move her away from this approach to life. She has suffered a great deal in life. From child rape to physical abuse that has effected her mental functioning. However, she hides behind her mental impairment when it comes to choices she makes. She will often blame others for suggestions or "pushing" her in a given direction. When she makes that choice "they" are to blame when it doesnt work out. And believe me it never works out. Neither of us care much for the "smile and your cares will disappear" attitude. Life is a little to cruel for that. So I could not carry that approach off and she knows better of me. Any advice?

Thank You for the article. Recovery is about taking responsibility and doing something different. No more excuses!

Thanks for the comment, Kayakotto.
