Am I an Alcoholic if I Drink Every Day?

You’re not necessarily an alcoholic if you drink every single day. On the other hand, if you just typed that question into a search engine and ended up here, then chances are good that you might have a problem.

“Normal” drinkers don’t have to question whether or not they are alcoholic or not. The question never occurs to them–they don’t go and “research” whether or not they might be addicted to alcohol. So yeah, you might have a problem.

Notice that I did not say you’re an alcoholic. Only you can decide that for yourself. Alcoholism is self-diagnosed. No one can put that label on you. You have to figure out if that’s what you are and then deal with it, or simply walk away from the idea and go drink like a “normal” person and lead a “normal” life.

The question is: can you drink like a normal person?

If you can, then go live a “normal” life and be happy. But if alcohol seems to be a problem for you, then you might want to take a look at it and consider getting some help.

Try this on for size: “I didn’t get in trouble every time I drank. But every time I was in trouble, I had been drinking.” See the difference there? Most any alcoholic can look back at their drinking and agree with that statement. Every time they got into trouble in their life, alcohol had been a factor.

If you still aren’t sure, then go here and learn more about how to diagnose yourself.
